Nov. 3-5, 2017
Canadian Catholic Student Association Conference
Cape Breton University Chaplaincy Office hosted this wonderful Conference from Nov. 3-5, 2017 at the Gaelic College in Cape Breton. Sr. Catherine MacFarlane CSM, is a member of the Chaplaincy Office and was involved with the planning and organization of the Conference. There were 28 students and Chaplains in attendance from several Atlantic Universities. It was a blessing indeed to see young people interested in their Catholic Faith!!
The main guest presenter for the weekend was Amy Brierly, Coordinator of the Sisters of St. Martha Justice Ministry. Amy’s theme was :” Living into Our Larger Self”. By all accounts, it was a beautiful presentation with lots of input and participation from the students!!
The Saturday afternoon session was lead by three Spiritual Directors. The Directors guided the students and Chaplains through two Prayer exercises from Fr. Michael Hanson’s (SJ) book on St. Ignatius First Spiritual Exercises. As well, some students met individually with the Directors for a short time to have a sense of what Spiritual Direction is all about.
The Conference wrapped up on Sunday morning. I am sure the students took away a greater sense of purpose for their lives, and an awareness of God’s abundant and unconditional love for each and every person.
