A wonderful meeting of the Sydney Martha Associates was held on Wednesday, January 10th, 2018 at the Bethel Presbyterian Church Hall. It was a cold night with lots of ice around. Eight of our Associates were able to attend.
We spent a little time on our check in as it was the first time in 2018 that we met. During our check in time, Sr. Dorothy Moore shared with us her experience of being present for the secularization ceremony for the Bethany Chapel. Bishop Dunn presided and only the Sisters of St. Martha were present. Sr. Dorothy said it was very beautiful and meaningful, but extremely emotional for the Sisters; sad, yet hopeful.
We opened with a beautiful prayer, written by Sr. Joyce Rupp, to welcome the New Year.
Following some discussion about using the web site, we spoke about our Social justice funds. It was suggested that it may be nice to give our monies to help the Ministries that some of our Sydney Associates are involved in such as St. Vincent de Paul and Mass for Shut Ins. Everyone present thought this was a great idea.
There was some discussion around the Martha Associate retreat Day in September. More news to come.
We watched the DVD on the Canadian response to Laudato Si. Followed by some discussion! We looked at ways we can help our world, small things can make a huge impact!
Finally we enjoyed a lovely lunch provided by Bev and John and Jean! We also celebrated two January Birthdays! Mary Gillis and Jean Peinsznski with a yummy cake!!
God Bless, Julia Townsend
